Robin Uthappa Biography

Robin Uthappa is an Indian cricketer who is a right handed batsman and right arm medium pace bowler. He started playing domestic ODI matches in April 2006. In his debut match he scored 86 runs which is the highest Indian score in the debut match with limited overs.

 

Robin Uthappa was born on 11th November 1985 in Kodagu in Karnataka. His father’s name is Venu Uthappa and his mother’s name is Roselyn. His father is an international hockey referee. He has one sister named Sharon. His mother is a Malayalee from Kerala and so he knows to speak Kodava language and Malayalam. He completed his schooling at St. Joseph’s Boys High School at Bangalore. Being a part of the team, he had an important role in driving the Indian team to win the ICC World T20 World Cup 2007.

 

He came to limelight when he scored 66 runs for India B team against the India A team in the Challenger Trophy in 2005. Then next year in the same tournament he scored 93 runs off 100 balls. He was a part of the U19 Indian team that won the Asia Cup.

 

His international ODI debut was on 15th April 2006 against England. After a short break he was recalled to ODI in January 2007 for the series against West Indies. He was also a part of the 2007 Cricket World Cup Indian team. He was the first Indian to score 50 runs in the T20 international match. He plays first class cricket for the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

 

In the 2008 Indian Premier League, he played for Mumbai Indians. He scored 48 runs off 38 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore in his first match and this excellent gaming continued throughout the series. In 2009 IPL season, he moved to the Royal Challengers Bangalore team but disappointed his fans in that season.

 

He scored the second fastest half century in the IPL 2010 match against Kings XI Punjab with 51 runs off 21 balls. In the match against Chennai Super Kings, he scored 68 off 38 balls and got Man of the Match award for that. In the 2011 IPL season, he played for Pune Warriors. He was the second most expensive player in the 2011 auction. He has scored 405 runs in 16 games in that tournament.
