Robin Singh Biography

Robin Singh has been a dedicated player of Indian cricket team whose name has been listed among all-rounders who played for India after middle 1990’s. He is currently the coach of Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians. He is known for his efficient running between the wickets and amazing fielding. He owns some magical catches in the One-Day format of this wonderful game of cricket. He frequently used to get ‘Best catch of the day’ awards. He has been one among those rare cricketers who was well aware of his own limitations, yet tried to give more than 100 percent what he can actually give.

 

Robin Singh was born on 14 September 1963 in Trinidad to Indian Nadar parents. He moved to Chennai at a younger age where he started playing cricket. But his family still resides at Trinidad. Robin Singh started his first class career during the 1981-82 season. He played for Tamil Nadu. His first class cricket record statistics include - 6,000 runs and 172 wickets with his gentle medium fast bowling. He played for about 2 decades.

 

He made his ODI debut in the year 1989 against West Indies. But he was dropped from the team later. It took almost seven years for his re-entry at a time when his age had almost conquered him. Yet he gave his sincere efforts for the team giving many match winning performances. Though he has been given only one test match to play for India, he got opportunity to play 136 ODIs where he was placed among middle order batsmen. He scored 2336 runs from 136 ODI matches and has also taken 69 wickets. He managed to score a 100 which still remains as his highest score. He has also scored 9 50’s. He became the coach of Hong Kong national cricket team in 2004 and helped the team to qualify for the 2004 Asia Cup.
