Rituparna Sengupta is one of the top actresses of Bengali cinema. Occasionally she works for Bengali movies as well. In 1997, she won National awards for best actress for the Bengali movie, Dahan. She shared this award with Indrani Haldar for the same movie, indeed a unique record at National awards. Her Hindi debut was N N Sippy's Teesra Kaun (1994) directed by Parto Ghosh, remake of Malayalam hit, No.20 Madras Mail, a unique movie of Mohanlal-Mammootty combination. She played the lead role in this murder mystery. She is married to Sanjay Chakrabarty, founder and CEO of MobiApps.

Rituparna was born on 7 November 1971 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Rituparna was interested in the arts since early childhood. She studied at an art school, Chitrangshu. Her graduation was completed from Lady Brabourne College and though she joined in University of Calcutta for higher studies, she discontinued studies and joined cinema. Her first film was Swet Patharer Thala, released in the year 1989. She took a small break and later joined the industry with Teesra Kaun, a Bollywood movie. Her debut Malayalam movie, Kathaveedu is to release in the year 2013.

Sujan Sakhi, Shami Keno Ashami, Moner Manush, Adorer Bon, Ami Shei Meye and Sansar Sangram are her top movies. She has worked with director Swapan Saha in numerous Bengali hits. Other top Bengali movies of this top rated Bengali actress are Abujh Mon, Utsab, Adarer Bon and Paromitar Ek Din. She acted as Sunil Shetty’s younger sister in Hindi remake of Hitler, Aakrosh. She has worked with Mithun Chakraborty with a few Hindi movies of which Teesra Kaun and Dadagiri need special mention. She has also appeared in these Bollywood movies – Dil to bachcha hai jee, Gauri: The unborn, Love Khichdi, Do not disturb, Mohini, Zakhmi Sipahi and Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh. She has won numerous awards for her acting talent. She won Kalakar best actress award for the years – 1997, 2001, 2004 and successively for 5 years from 2006 to 2010.
