Rita Dutta Chakraborty Biography

Rita Dutta Chakraborty is a noted Bengali actress, who works in movies and television serials. She played female protagonist in the Bengali film, Shilpi in 1994 directed by Nabyendu Chatterjee. Krantikaal, Parampar, Alo and Highway are other noted Bengali films. Rita has appeared in only a few number of films. But she is quite active in television industry since 2008, and has played both lead and character roles. She currently plays the role of Basumati in Punyi Pukur, aired on Star Jalsa, and Bojhena Se Bojhena, Gouridaan, Jol Nupur, Tumi Robe Nirobe, Durga, Bou Kotha Kao, Bhasha, Maa....Tomay Chara Ghum Ashena, Hiyar Maajhe etc are a few more Bengali television roles.

 

She was born in Balurghat town of North Bengal. She completed her school and college education from her native town. She moved to Kolkata to do her higher studies. She took Post-graduation in Sanskrit from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and also did a teachers’ training course. Though she completed her academics, she had a passion to join entertainment field, and started off with movies, television and theater plays. Through her hard work and dedication, she made an identity of her own in the Bengali entertainment industry.

 

She played lead roles in Bengali movies since late 1980s. Saheli (1988), Kaal Abhirathi (1989) and Shilpi (1993) are among the movies, where she played female protagonist. Apart from being a successful actress on small screen and big screen, she has also anchored a few television shows such as "Gitabitan" on Tara Musik, "Kane-kane" on Zee Bangla and "Private Katha" on NE Bangla. She is also a radio play artist and a "B-High" artiste of Drama Section of Akashvani Kolkata Station. Till now she has done more than 160 radio plays.
