Rinki Bhattacharya Biography 
Rinki Bhattacharya is an Indian writer, columnist and documentary filmmaker. She is the Vice Chairperson of 'Children's Film Society of India'. She is the daughter of great film director of yesterdays, Bimal Roy and is the founder Chairperson of 'Bimal Roy Memorial & Film Society’. Rinki was married to the film director, Basu Bhattacharya against father’s consent. But due to domestic violence, she started living separately from 1983. The couple divorced in 1990. The couple has three kids – 2 daughters and one son. Their son Aditya Bhattacharya is a director while one of the daughters, Anwesha Arya is a writer. She successfully litigated against her family to inherit her father’s property also.
Rinki was born in 1942 in Kolkata. She is the eldest daughter of the renowned filmmaker, Bimal Roy. Since early childhood, she got exposure to literature as well as people related to it. Her childhood was spent around prominent writers who used to visit her home. She started her career as a freelance journalist in 1966. She published articles in The Economic Times, The Indian Express and many other periodicals. Later she entered into documentary film world where she directed many documentaries. Char Divari was her first documentary which dealt with domestic abuse of women. Very soon she produced documentaries related to issues involving violence against women in India.
She became deeply involved in this subject and wrote the column, Behind Closed Doors: Domestic Violence In India, based on her personal experiences. Basu Bhattacharya started his career as an assistant of Bimal Roy with the movie Madhumati. Later he fell in love with his daughter Rinki and married her against his will. Thus the relationship with Basu Bhattacharya and Bimal Roy was broken. She has authored Bimal Roy - A Man of Silence, Indelible Imprints and a few cookery books.
