Richa Chadda Biography

Richa Chadda is a successful actress of Bollywood. She is a theatre artist also. She debut Bollywood with critically well acclaimed, National award winning movie, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!  In which she made her appearance as Dolly. Her role as Nagma in first and second parts of Gangs of Wasseypur also needs special mention. In the movie, she matured from 16 to 60 years of age and was given the name, Ms.Fire for the beautiful portrayal of Nagma. For this role, she received Filmfare Critics award for best actress. She was nominated in supporting role for this movie in Zee Cine Awards, Star Screen Awards and Stardust Awards. Rediff.com called it the Second Best Performance of the Year.


Richa Chadda was born in Amritsar and brought up in Delhi. Her mother is a renowned professor at Delhi University who has published books. She did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and completed graduation from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Later she did PG Diploma in Social Communication Media from Sophia College, Mumbai. She started her career through modeling and later moved to movies with successful debut in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! In both the first movies, her role was well appreciated and her role in Gangs of Wasseypur was regarded as the second best performance of year after Vidya Balan’s Dirty picture.

In 2013, two movies of this actress were released – Fukrey and Shorts. Fukrey was comedy film directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba where she worked with a group of young actors - Pulkit Samrat, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh, Vishakha Singh, and Priya Anand. The movie was received well in box office too. Now Richa works in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much anticipated epic movie Ram Leela, a Gujarati version of Romeo & Juliet. She handles the role of Raseela in this movie, a supporting role. Her other upcoming movies are Ishqeria, Tamanchey and Jiah and Jiah.
