Remo Fernandes Biography

Remo Fernandes is a well established pop artist of Indian origin. He is a pop, rock and Indian fusion artist and film playback singer from Goa. His musical work is a fusion of many different cultures that reflects life and socio-political happenings in India. He writes lyrics and sings in 4 different languages - English, Hindi, French, Portuguese and Konkani. As a Bollywood playback singer, his top two songs are Humma humma of Bombay, composed by A. R. Rahman and title track of Pyar to hona hi tha for Jatin Lalit. Jaspinder Nirula sang aside him for this popular track and both appeared in its promotional video as well. He has also worked as guest composer of Khamoshi: The musical.

Remo Fernandes was born to Panjim family of Bernardo and Luiza Fernandes on 8 May 1953 in a Catholic family. Yet when he was grown up, he preferred to believe that God is above religion. At the age of 7, he happened to hear "Rock Around The Clock", a record by Bill Haley & His Comets, given by his cousin. From that day, he was attracted to rock music and changed his life forever. Later he spent his time hearing records of singing icons of rock music. He played guitar during school days and with a group of friends, Alexandre Rosario, Tony Godinho, and Caetano Abreu, formed a school band named the "The Beat 4". The first composition itself gave him 1st prizes in all-Goa competitions for best composer, best vocalist, and best lead guitarist at the age of 14. Thus began the successful journey of India’s Rockstar.

Though he joined Bachelor's degree in Architecture in Mumbai, his passion in music prompted him to bunk classes. At that time, Mumbai was one among the rare cities where rock music was performed and Remo performed live in many stages during his college days. His first hit album "Pack That Smack" was released in 1986 and "Bombay City" the next year. In 1987, his album Jalwa became instant hit. Other albums include - Politicians don't know to Rock'n'Roll, and in 1998, along with his newly formed band d the Microwave Papadums, he released ‘Oh meri munni’, one of the chartbusters of the year. Now he resides in Goa, with his wife, Frenchwoman Michele Delahaye and two sons, Noah and Jonah.
