Remiyan Biography

Remiyan is an art director and production designer associated with Tamil cinema. He is best known for the projects - Arinthum Ariyamalum, Alibaba, Pattiyal, Devan, Alai, Ninaithaley Inikkum and Kannamoochi yenada. Remiyan was born and brought up in Pondicherry. He made his film debut with Punnagai Desam (2002) and has spent more than one decade in the industry. His real name is Gerard Maubel De Remy. He started his career as an architect and silk painting designer before joining film industry as an art director.

He was born in Pondicherry on July 20, 1969. His childhood days and college life were spent in Pondicherry where he completed his education as well. He completed graduation from Pondicherry College of arts and took Master’s in Journalism and Mass communication at MK University. He started his career as an architectural model maker under well-known architect Francis. He also worked as silk painting designer at the Auromodel Atelier at Auroville, before he moved to Chennai to continue his work. At Chennai he worked as an architectural miniaturist and elevation designer.

He started his film journey as an assistant to noted Tamil art directors like B. G Mahi and G. K. After spending a few years as an assistant working for about 20 movies, he made his debut as an independent art director in 2002 with the movie Punnagai Desam which earned him appreciation. Before that he worked as an art director for one television series, Chitthi in 2000. Since then, he has been associated with both cinema and television. He has designed sets for television serials also. Kazhugu and Ambuli are his upcoming projects.
