Ravi Ruia Biography 
Ravi Ruia is the Vice-Chairman of Essar Group and former Vodafone business partner. Essar Group was found in the year 1969 by Ruia brothers – Ravi Ruia and Shashi Ruia. According to Forbes list of richest billionaires of 2012, Ruia brothers became the world's first richest Indians with a net worth of US$7 billion. The brothers are credited for starting India’s first mobile phone service too. In April 2013 he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability award at The Asian Awards in London. In 2011, he came to limelight with the spread of corruption news related to India's infamous 2G spectrum case. He was one among the three executives of Essar Group who were charged with "criminal conspiracy" and "cheating". Essar group was accussed for violating license guidelines which clearly tells no operator can own more than 10% of another mobile network with license in the same service area.
He was born in 1949 in a family running a small business. His full name is Ravikant Nandkishore Ruia and he is shortly called Ravi. He completed Mechanical Engineering from Chennai. At present he lives in London to strengthen Essar Group. He joined Essar group in 1969 after engineering and played a significant role over years to make Essar Group, one of the leading industries of India. Ruia brothers opened India's first Iron Sponge Plant and followed it by a full-fledged steel plant.
This multinational conglomerate which operates in more than 20 countries has diversified interests in steel, oil and gas, power, communications, shipping, ports and logistics, projects and minerals. Following the 2G spectrum case, he resigned from the position of Chairman Position of Essar Energy. He was disappointed by the stand taken by the CBI. But he continued as a director of Essar Energy. The Ruia brothers control almost 77% of the Essar Energy Division.
