Ravi Chopra Biography

Ravi Chopra is a film maker of Bollywood who produces and directs movies. He is the son of legendary film maker, B. R. Chopra. He is the nephew of late Director-Producer Yash Chopra. Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra are his first cousins. Ravi Chopra’s most noted work is Television serial, Mahabharat that was successfully telecasted in Doordarshan during late 80’s and early 90’s. It was the top rated television program till then. It was produced by his father and himself. He is also known for the movie, The burning train, released in the year 1980. The movie was in top news as it was one of the most expensive films till then, but met with a disaster at box office. Yet the movie is still remembered for the long list of actors worked in it and its songs.

 

Ravi has directed 6 Bollywood movies and after Bhootnath, no movie has been released in his production. As a director, his movies are Zameer, The burning train, Mazdoor, Dahleej, Baghban and Babul. He was the director who brought back Hema Malini to screen and she was paired opposite Big B after years, it was a huge hit at box office. However his next project with same pair, aside Salman Khan didn’t click at box office. Babul was the last movie of Ravi as a director.

 

Ravi Chopra was served with a legal notice in 2009 by 20th Century Fox. The company blamed that his upcoming project, Bandaah ye Bindass Hai was a remake of 1992 comedy My Cousin Vinny. This was the first time a Bollywood filmmaker was taken to court by a Hollywood company over the remaking of a film. But later it turned out to be wrong. But Ravi met with a financial crisis now and a 32 crore loan due to this single delayed project.
