Rathi Biography

Rathi is a south Indian actress who predominantly works in Tamil and Telugu film industries. She is also a dubbing actress and has dubbed for actress Genelia for the 2003 Tamil movie ‘Boys’. Solla Marandha Kadhai (2002) is her most noticed work till now. She played the lead role of Parvathi Chokkalingam in this movie opposite Cheran which earned her a nomination at Filmfare Awards for Best Tamil Actress too. The movie was based on Nanjil Nadan's novel Thalaikeezh vigithangal. She has also acted in one Malayalam movie, Kerala House Udan Vilpanakku in 2004, where she played a supporting role. She made her Kannada debut the same year through the movie – Boyfriend. She has also done a few television serials in Tamil and Kannada.

Her full name is Rathi Arumugam. She was born in Bangalore, Karnataka in 1982. She was born to Tamilians, Arumugam and Bharani and has 2 siblings. She is a trained classical dancer. She did BDS course from Mathrushri Ramabai Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital in Bangalore. She made her acting debut in the 2002 Tamil film Gummalam. She played lead role opposite another debutant Mithun Tejasvi. The movie went unnoticed. After that she has done more than 15 films in lead and supporting roles and has also worked as a dubbing artist for a few movies. She has done an item song for Ajith Kumar starrer Anjaneya in 2003.

She later appeared in Tamil movies like Anbe Un Vasam, Pallavan, Adi Thadi, Singara Chennai etc. her Telugu movies include - Allari Bullodu, Sankranthi, Pallakilo Pellikuthuru, Prema Sangamam, Ayodhya etc. She has also acted in Tamil television serials - Shanthi Nilayam and Chithiram Pesuthadi.
