Ranjeet Biography

Ranjeet is an actor of Bollywood most known for negative roles. Yet now he appears in supporting roles as well as comic roles. Gopal Bedi is his real name and Golu, his nickname. He has done about 200 films till now with Villain’s roles dominating. Now he is a popular television actor also and has played a positive character throughout on TV series Aisa Des Hai Mera. Apart from Hindi, he works in Punjabi movies also. His most successful Punjabi movies are Rab ne banayian jodiyan and Man jeete jag jeet. He has directed two movies – Ghazab tamasha and Karnama. He was the producer of Ghazab tamasha that repeated the successful pair of Aashique once again. But the movie was not a big success at box office.

Ranjeet was born in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar as Gopal Bedi. The name Ranjeet was suggested by Guru Dutt during the film shooting of Reshma aur Shera. He entered movies during early 70’s with Sawan Bhadon (1970) which is the debut movie of actress Rekha. Then he was figured in negative supporting villain roles in movies like Sharmili, Hulchul, Victoria No. 203, Haseenom ka devta and Raampur Ka Lakshman.  

It’s also to be noted that in more than 25 films he worked, the character name was none other than Ranjeet, a unique record. The movies that can be shown as the instance are Bandhe Haath, Aamir Garib, Dharam Veer,Humse Hai Zamana, Shapath, Jagir, Geraftar, Meri Zaban, Chalta Purza, Bhookh, Rakhi Ki Saugandh, Namak Halal, Takkar, Teesri Ankh, AAA, Haath Ki Safai, Himlay se ooncha, Doti lota aur chopati, Gumraah, Bundalbaaz, Zimmedar and Zalim. These movies are noted for his ‘angry young man’ image too. In all his roles, he appears as a restless bad guy with crooked thoughts.

In the recent years, he appears in positive roles. Many of them have comic touch as well. Bunty aur Bubli needs special mention. His recent movies include - Shootout at Wadala (2013), Housefull 2: The Dirty Dozen (2012), No Problem (2010), Welcome (2007) and Bombay to Goa (2007).
