Ramya Krishnan Biography

 

Ramya Krishnan is an Indian actress who mainly concentrates in the South Indian film industry. She has acted more than 200 films in five languages, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada.

 

She was born on 15th September 1967 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She got training in Bharatanatiyam and Kuchipudi in her younger days and had given many stage performances. The veteran Tamil comedian Cho Ramaswamy is her uncle. She married Krishna Vamsi on 12th June 2003. He is a Telugu film director. They have one son Ritwik born on February 2005.

 

She started her acting career when she was just 13 and her career spreads over three decades. Her first film was Vellai Manasu with Y. Gee. Mahendran. She was studying only 9th standard at that time. Her Telugu debut movie was Bhalae Mithrulu. The movie Suthradharulu by Kasinadhuni Viswanath released in 1987 brought her name and fame. Her Tamil film Padayappa in 1999 was released in many world countries like Japan, Singapore, London and Paris. She acted in the villain role as Neelambari in that film and got great acclaim for that.

 

Other films that she acted are Panchathanthiram, Paattali, Paarai, Vaanjinathan, Asathal, Budget Pathmanaban, Chandralekhs, Ooyala, Love Story 1999, Dharma Chakram, Pellala Rajyam, Amma Ammani Chudalani Undhi, Allu Mazaaka, Thulasi, Hero, Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam, Madhura Meenakshi, Ranga The Donga, etc.


She is noted for her roles of Goddess in the Telugu and Tamil films especially in the films, Ammoru, Annai Kaligambal, and Rajakaliamman. She has performed stage shows in many places of the world like New York, Dallas, San Jose, and Cincinnati. She is hosting Zara Masti Zara Dhoom, an entertainment show. She started a film company in the name of her son Ritwik. She was a judge in the dancing show, Star Vijay Jodi Number One Season 1 and in season 5.

 

She got Filmfare Best Actress Award for Padayappa in the year 1999 and Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the film Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam in the year 2009, Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for the film Padayappa, Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actress for Raju Maharaju in 2009 and Sun TV Family Awards 2009 Best Actress Special Award for Thanggam.
