Ramya Biography

Ramya Subramanian is a popular artist associated with Tamil television. Known by the name VJ Ramya, she is one of the most successful anchors of Tamil television in the recent times. Apart from a supporting role in the Tamil film, O Kadhal Kanmani in 2015, she has done cameo appearance for a couple of movies as a reporter – Mankatha in 2011 and most recently, Masss in 2015. A star anchor on STAR VIJAY, she has successfully anchored the shows - Kalakkapovadhu Yaar?, Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhudeva?, Namma Veetu Kalyanam and Kedi Boys Killadi Girls.

Born into a conventional Tamil family, she learnt Bharatnatyam for seven years. Ramya was one of the finalists of Miss Chennai competition in 2004 and made her television entry as a host. She made a brief appearance in 2007 movie, Mozhi after which actress Jyothika took a break from the industry. Ramya played the role of Pannaiyar's daughter in the movie. However Ramya became popular as an anchor through a series of shows on Star Vijay.

She graduated in Visual Communication from MOP Vaishnav Women’s College, specialized in television production. Her Visual Communication internship helped her to get the first break on television. She went to Star Vijay Office to do an internship in television production. But she got selected for a program as an anchor without any screen test. Geetha Kailash, daughter-in- law of director K. Balachander is her family friend who inspired her a lot to take anchoring as profession.

Though her family supported her in her role as an anchor, they restricted her from taking acting roles. She got married to Aparajith Jayaraman at Chennai in 2014. After marriage she cut short her assignments and returned to big screen playing a small role in Mani Ratnam’s, O Kadhal Kanmani. She also became an RJ at BIG FM 92.7. Most recently in 2015, she announced on twitter that she has ended her marital relationship on mutual consent.
