Rami Reddy Biography

Rami Reddy was a well-known character actor of south Indian cinema known for portraying antagonist roles. He has also done comedy roles successfully, yet unsuccessful as a film producer and director. He was popular for delivering typical Telangana dialect in his distinct style and his dialogue "Spot pedatha" in the film Ankusam brought him instant fame. Apart from villain and comic roles, he has also portrayed numerous comic roles. He has also appeared in a few Bollywood movies and is role as Gangster in 1990 movie - Pratibandh earned him a Filmfare nomination for best actor in a supporting role. The movie starred Chiranjeevi and Juhi Chawla in lead roles and it was the Hindi remake of Ankusam which earned him instant stardom. Rami has also acted in a few Malayalam and Tamil movies, mostly negative roles.

 

Rami Reddy was born in Chittoor district at Valmikipuram in 1959. He completed journalism from Osmania University and worked as a journalist for a short while before reaching cinema. 1990 Telugu film – Ankusam was his first hit movie and its dialogues became very popular, establishing him as an actor. Later he did many significant roles, mostly villain roles for movies - Osey Ramulamma, Ammoru, Gaayam, Anaganaga Oka Roju, Peddarikam, Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari and Anji.

 

Apart from all south Indian languages, he played bad boy in Hindi and Bhojpuri movies too. The actor had been suffering from kidney and liver disease over the last few years and passed away on 14 April 2011 at Hyderabad aged 52. He had acted in almost 250 films belonging to different languages.
