Ramakant Achrekar Biography 
Ramakant Achrekar is a veteran and prolific cricket coach from Mumbai, best known for coaching and shaping the career of world’s best batsman – Sachin Tendulkar. Definitely Sachin is his most favourite student. He has coached several young cricketers at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai and many have found place in Indian National team. Ajit Agarkar, Praveen Amre, Vinayak Mane, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Paras Mhambrey, Sanjay Bangar, Chandrakant Pandit, Sameer Dighe and Amol Muzumdar are among his best students who shined in either international or domestic cricket team. He is a recipient of the prestigious Dronacharya award in 1990 and Padma Sri in 2010 for his outstanding contributions to Indian cricket as a coach and mentor.
He hails from Malvan, Maharashtra and was born in the year 1932. He started playing cricket in the 1940s though not known for his skills as a good cricketer. He has played with several clubs in the 1940s, and got opportunity to play for a single first class cricket match. He played that first class match in 1963-1964 Season for all-India State Bank against Hyderabad in the Moin-ud-Dowla tournament. He later founded Kamath Memorial Cricket Club at Shivaji Park and trained hundreds of aspiring cricketers who want to become ‘Next-Tendulkar’. He is the coach and mentor of world’s best batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
A great disciple to his guru, Sachin along with another 100 students of Sharadashram Vidyamandir celebrated their beloved guru’s 79th birthday at the Bandra Kurla Complex in 2011. As he took a trip down the memory lane, he revealed many valuable notes on his guru’s guidance, how he polished a young teenager to the world’s best batsman. He also revealed that he achieved so far due to the guidance of his mentor. Several inspiring stories are there – told by his students about this great and dedicated guru, known for his commitment to the game. He has also served as a selector of Mumbai cricket team.
