Rama Narayanan Biography

Rama Narayanan was a film director associated with commercial movies of Tamil. In 2013 he completed his 125th movie - Arya Surya. He is a film producer and wrote a few film scripts as well. He is one of the few film directors who shun extravagant methods in film productions and many producers of today see a role model in him to cut the cost of film making. He was recently named chairman of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Manram and served as the president of Tamil Film Producers Council for 3 consecutive terms till 2012. He passed away on June 22, 2014. He produced movies in 9 languages - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Oriya and Malay.

 
He was born on April 3, 1949. He reached Chennai to become a lyricist for movies. But destiny was something else and he became a dialogue writer. He was successfully paired with his friend M. A. Khaja, with whom he wrote dialogues for many movies. The duo was known in the name -Ram-Rahim. Aasai Arubadhu Naal in 1976 marked his debut as a screenwriter. He wrote its story and dialogues as well. Since then there is no looking back. With Meenakshi Kungumam in 1977, he turned a producer and he directed his first movie, Sumai in 1981. Since then he directed 125 movies. He is known for making movies with less cost and believes that a producer who invests his money must certainly get back his returns with interest.

His 50th film was "Veeran Veluthambi", for which DMK president M. Karunanidhi wrote story and dialogue. His 100th film was "Thirupathi Ezumalai Venkatesa". His company, Sri Thenandal films, has produced 55 films so far and all the movies were directed by Rama Narayanan.
