Rakshita Biography

Rakshita is a south Indian film actress who works in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu movies. Her real name is Swetha. Now she has turned a film producer. She made her acting debut in the year 2002 with the Kannada movie, Appu where she was paired opposite Puneet Rajkumar. She predominantly worked in Kannada movies and has occasionally acted in a few Telugu and Tamil movies as well. Her debut movie Appu was a big commercial hit which completed 200 days run. The movie was later made into Telugu as Idiot, in Tamil as Dum and in Bengali as Priya Amar Priya. She reprised her role as Suchitra in Telugu and Tamil versions and both the movies cashed well at box office.

 
Her real name is Swetha and she was brought up in Mumbai. Her father B. C. Gowrishankar was a well-known cinematographer of Kannada film industry and a winner of six Karnataka State Film Awards during his career. He was an occasional film director and screenwriter. Her mother Mamatha Rao too has appeared in a few Kannada films. She is married to Kannada film director Prem. Her debut movie Appu was the first movie of Puneeth Rajkumar in an adult role. Her next Kannada release Kalasipalya was also a hit. After the success of remakes of Appu, she became a busy star and she worked with many leading stars in a short span of time.

She married Prem in 2007 and took a break from acting. In 2011 she produced one Kannada movie – Jogayya. Thayiya Madilu, Hubli, Gokarna, Love, Kashi from Village, Gokarna, Neenello Naanalle and Tananam Tananam are some of her Kannada movies. She currently serves as the judge of Thaka Dhimi Tha Dancing star, aired on ETV Kannada.
