Raju Shrestha Biography

Raju Shrestha is an Indian actor associated with Bollywood and television who has been most successful as a child artist in the 1970s. He is best known for portraying cute young boy in 1970s Bollywood movies like Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Bawarchi (1972), Basu Chatterjee's Chitchor (1976), Gulzar’s Parichay (1972) and Gulzar's Kitaab (1977). Since 1970s he has acted in around 200 films and a few television series. Though he has played a few roles in his adult career, he is still recognized for the childhood roles he played in the 1970s. In fact he was one of the most popular child artists of the decade and his name is credited as Master Raju. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role in Chitchor (1976). As a little boy, he was a consummate scene-stealer.

 

Raju Shreshtha was born on August 15, 1966. Raju started his acting career in Gulzar's Parichay and Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Bawarchi. He bagged his first Filmfare award for his role in Kitaab and National award for Chitchor. Woh Saat Din and the television show, Chunauti are his other note performances. Though he had a promising career as a child artist, he couldn’t carry with ease adult roles. So he ended up with supporting roles of less significant. However he got a few good television roles.

 

Currently he is a dubbing artist too and best known for working as a voice actor of Suraj Sharma in the Hindi version of Life of Pi. He regularly works as a dubbing artist for many Hollywood movies dubbed to Hindi. He portrayed the role of musician Tansen in television series, Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap on Sony TV. Daag, Abhimaan, Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein, Badalthey Rishtey, Khushboo and Amar Prem are a few more of his memorable roles as a child artist.
