Rajshri Deshpande Biography

Rajshri Deshpande is a noted theatre and film actress from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. She played one of the leads in "Angry Indian Goddesses" directed by Pan Nalin. The film was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and won awards at many prestigious film festivals. In 2015 she made her Malayalam film debut through Haram – starring Fahadh Fazil and Radhika Apte. She also appeared in several short films. She is a trained Kathakali Dancer, has learnt Kerala martial art - Kalari, and Sword fighting. She also owns her own theater production house and fully engaged with it. She is an ardent traveller too. She appeared in successful Bollywood flicks of Khans - Talaash (2012) and Kick (2015).

 

She was born into a middle class family in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. She was a media planner before she got attached to theatre world. She is an ardent traveller who reached Cheruthuruthi, Thrissur (Kerala) and learnt Kathakali and Kalari Payattu. She learnt Kathakali from Kalamandalam John and Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan, both renowned artists who learnt from Kalamandalam, Cheruthuruthi. She is now part of their groups - Kalatarangini and Kathakali School.

 

Her acting career began when her father asked her to perform before guests. She performed mimicry and folk dances in functions at school and college, and slowly her passion to acting grew up along with her. She started her career with an ad agency and later started her own agenty 'Czar Content' that has functioned for more than 5 years handling almost 30 corporate clients. Fluent in Hindi, English and Marathi, she got drawn towards theatre. She worked as an AIDS patient in “Bombay Central" and has been the part of many short films.
