Rajiv Kapoor Biography

Rajiv Kapoor is a family member and Bollywood actor, belonging to the prestigious Kapoor Family of Indian cinema. He is the youngest son of Showman of Bollywood – Raj Kapoor, known for the controversial and successful movie, directed by his father – Ram Tere Ganga Maili (1986). His siblings who belong to Bollywood are Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. His sister Ritu Kumar Nanda is an entrepreneur and the Chief Executive Officer of Escolife. Bollywood actresses Nanda and Neetu Singh are his sister-in-laws. Unlike his star siblings, he was not successful in Bollywood as an actor or director. Actors Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor are his uncles. He is the uncle of top actors belonging to this generation – Karishma, Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor.

He was born on 25 August 1960 in Mumbai as the youngest son of Raj Kapoor. He had a short stint in the Hindi film industry and has appeared only in 13 movies. Ek jaan hain hum (1983) marked his big screen debut. However it was his second movie, Ram Tere Ganga Maili (1986) which brought him to limelight. Yet the movie is still remembered in the name of its lead actress, Mandakini for its controversial nude scenes pictured on her. “Sun Sahiba Sun” is one of the popular songs of the movie pictured on these lead actors. But after this movie, none of his appearances were successful and he was not able to make his mark in the industry similar to his elder brothers. Zimmedaar which released in 1990 was his last movie as an actor.

Then he turned to production and direction fields and revived his father’s famous RK banner in the late 1990’s. Henna in 1991 marked his debut as a successful producer, which starred his brother Rishi Kapoor in leading role. He made his directorial debut with Prem Granth (1996) which starred his brother Rishi and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. The movie was a failure. He produced Aa ab laut chalein under RK banner in 1999. In 2001, he married architect Aarti Sabharwal. But the couple divorced after 2 years.
