Rajesh Selva Biography

Rajesh Selva is a new comer director associated with Tamil cinema. Made his directorial debut with Kaalaippani in 2008, he worked as an assistant director and actor for many years before he made a comeback as a director with Kamal Hassan starrer Thoongaa Vanam in 2015. He was associated with Kamal Hassan for many years as an assistant and also played cameo roles in movies like Vishwaroopam (2013) and Uttama Villain (2015). His directorial venture Thoongaa Vanam in 2015 was highly appreciated by critics and was a box office hit. The movie was released in Telugu titled - Cheekati Rajyam.

 

Rajesh was a member of a school band long back in 1999 while he studied in M. C. C. Higher Secondary School. He graduated from a visual communications degree from Loyola College, Chennai in 2005. At that time he wanted to pursue a career in music. Same year he started a recording company DesignSelva, where he started his career as a sound recordist. He also released the independent album She 16, aside his school band members Naresh and Sathish Ramalingam. He made a feature film Kaalaippani, a murder mystery in 2008, which starred Vasundhara and Nassar, aside many newcomers. Though the movie had a low-key release, it received positive reviews.

 

Same year he joined Raaj Kamal Films International on the advice of a friend to learn more about film making. He worked with Kamal Hassan as an assistant for many years till 2015 and also played character roles for movies. In 2014 he left the team to make his second film, Thoongaa Vanam. He took only 60 days to shoot both the versions of the film. Trisha and Madhu Shalini were the characters added to the film later. After the success of the film, he has received many offers outside Kamal Hassan’s banner and he too, has a few stories in mind.
