Rajesh Pratap Singh Biography

Rajesh Pratap Singh is a leading fashion designer from Rajasthan. He is currently based in New Delhi. He is also the Associate Design member of Fashion Design Council of India. He was trained with New Delhi-based designer David Abraham and later graduated from NIFT Delhi in 1994. Singh started his own line of men's and women's clothing in 1996 based on his two year experience in Indian and Italian fashion industry. He also worked with the Italian menswear label, Marzotto before launching his own label. Pratap has showcased in collections in Paris and Milan. He believes in the principles of minimalism in design while going in detail through its procedures.

Rajesh Pratap Singh was born in a family of doctors. He was born in Rajasthan. His father was a noted cardiologist who desired his son too, to choose the same profession. But Pratap was inclined towards arts and designs. He was influenced a lot by his cousin, a costume assistant on a BBC production set in India. He is married to Payal and she too assists him in his work, alongside his sisters. He loves travelling and believes that such travels can nourish one’s creativity. Pratap is a rock climber and a regular biker too. He designed the opera costumes of “Padmavati by Albert Roussel” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which was staged in Paris in 2008.

Pratap has showcased his collections at spring summer collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week – 2006, Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week line in 2007, summer 2009 collection at Paris Fashion Week and Autumn winter line in the WIFW titled ‘Valentino Rossi meets Mother Teresa, Biker's Jacket meet the Saree’ in 2009. Kingfisher Designer of the Year award in 2001 and 2005, Designer of the Year named by Elle in 2007 and Designer of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year awards in 2009 are the major awards received by him.
