Rajendra Shukla Biography

Rajendra Shukla is a distinguished Gujarati poet and writer. He has published many poems in leading magazines, starting with prestigious Gujarati magazine "Kumar". His first anthology "Komal Rishabh" was published in the year 1970. His second anthology "Sva-Vachak Ni Shodh" was published three years later. "Antar Gandhar" (1981) and Ghazal Samhita (2005) are other noted works. Ghazal Samhita is a huge collection of more than 450 Ghazals in 5 volumes titled - "Sabhar Suraahi", "Meghdhanunaa Dhaal Par", "Aa Ame Nikalyaa", "Jhalhal Padaav", and "Ghir Aayi Girnaari Chhaya"."Divya Setu" is one of his best inspirational poems.

 

Rajendra Shukla was born in Bantwa, Junagadh district, Gujarat, on 12 October 1942. His parents were Anantray Shukla and Vidyagauri. He completed Graduation and Master’s in Sanskrit-Prakrit from Gujarat University. He married Nayana Jani in 1974 and had two kids. After studies, he started his career as a teacher in Shri Natavarshimhji Arts College, Chhota Udaipur in the year 1967 and worked for two years. In 1969, he joined Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad as a teacher, followed by Kotawala Arts College in Patan in 1970-1971. Throughout 1970’s, he worked as a faculty at different colleges, part-time and full-time. He retired from teaching in the year 1982.

 

His poems were regularly published in literary magazines like Kumar, Kruti, Ray, Kavita, Milap, Kavilok, Vishvamanav, Kankavati and Abhiyan. Apart from books, he has also released audio CDs reciting poems in his own voice titled, Paathpratishthaa in two volumes and Sahrudaya Samaksha. His first and third published collection of poems, "Komal Rishabh" and "Antar Gandhar" received best Anthology of poetry for the year, 1970 and 1981 from Gujarat government respectively. "Antar Gandhar" also received Kavi Shri Nhanalal Prize and Uma-Sneharashmi Prize.
