Rajendra Krishnan Biography

Rajendra Krishnan, also known as Rajinder Krishnan was a poet, lyricist, dialogue writer and screen writer during the golden era of Bollywood. He was a script writer of Tamil movies and writes songs for Hindi movies. In association with C.Ramachandra, he has delivered maximum Hindi hits. He is also known for his association with Madan Mohan, R.D.Burman, Hemant Kumar, Salil Chaudary, Laxmikanth Pyarelal, Shankar Jai kishan and S.D.Burman and has worked in Bollywood since late 40’s to 1980’s. Among his most memorable works, the songs of Khandaan, Gopi, Tumse Achha Kaun Hai, Pehli Jhalak, Nagin, Anarkali, Albela, Jaha ara, eh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke, Man-Mauji, Adalat, Asha, Gauri, Brahmachari, Padosan, Blackmail, Dekh Kabira Roya, Reshma Aur Shera, Kahani kismet ki, Rakhwala, Bombay to Goa and Banarasi Babu are remembered most. For the song ‘Tumhi meri pooja’ of Khandaan, he has won Filmfare awards for best lyricist.  

 

He has showed his skills as a successful screenplay writer too. He has also written dialogues for a few hit movies during 50’s and 60’s and most notable movies in his dialogues list include - Bari Behen (In 1949, his debut), Ladki, Man-Mauji, Prem patra, Bluff Master, Jawab, Bharosa, Shehshaada, Man mandir, Pyar Kiye Jaa, Sadhu Aur Shaitaan, Padosan, Barkha, Patang, Nazrana, maa baap, Chaya, Rakhi, Bombay to Goa, Jwar Bhata, Waaris, Sachai, Gopi, Shaadi, Bindiya, Naya Din Nai Raat, Pooja ka phool, Khandan, Bhai-Bhai, Nagin and Pehli Jhalak. He has written a few stories like Khel mohabbat ka; wrote its dialogues too.

 

 As a screenplay writer, he is remembered for the classic comedy – Padosan. He has written its lyrics also, including Kehna hai and Mere samne wali khidki. He has written one more screen play – Man mandir in the year 1971. Thus he proved himself to be a phenomenon thus conquering more than two sectors of film making industry. After his death, HMV released an LP consisting of 12 songs written by Rajendra Krishnan.

 

A few of the best of his lyrics include Mein to tum sang of Man-Mauji sung by Lata mangeshkar, Kabhi humne nahi socha of Tumse acha kaun hai, Yeh zindagi of Anarkali, Shola jo bhadke of Albela, Tumhi meri pooja of Khandaan and Mere samne wali of Padosan.
