Rajat Kapoor Biography

Rajat Kapoor is an actor of Bollywood films. He is a script writer and director also. He has done a few successful short films also, before wearing film director cap.

 

His notable performances as an actor include – Dil chahta hai, Bheja fry, Mudda: The Issue, Corporate, Mixed doubles, Dhadkanein, Chehraa, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi?, Rann, That Girl In Yellow Boots, Pappu Can't Dance Saala, Phas Gaye Re Obama, Agent Vinod, Jo Dooba So Paar: It's Love In Bihar!, Tum, Anuranan, Apna Asmaan, Crazy 4, Midnight's Children, Fatso!, Dasvidaniya, Kisna: The Warrior Poet, Bombay Skies, Yun Hota To Kya Hota and Monsoon Wedding. Among all his movies, his role in Bheja fry, Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi?, That Girl In Yellow Boots, Corporate, Pappu Can't Dance Saala, Phas Gaye Re Obama, Agent Vinod and Dasvidaniya were noted most. In most movies, he is casted as a rich businessman who leads a high profile life.

 

Rajat kapoor was born in Delhi, in 1961. He was interested in movies at a younger age and it was his ambition to become an actor. In 1983 he joined the theatre group Chingari in Delhi and later he attended FTII at Pune. He made his full length directorial debut with Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One (1997). He wrote its script too. He has also directed a few more short films during 90’s and early 2000’s – Tarana, Hypnothesis, Tonight no show and Jojo And The Chair. As an actor he debut with Dil chahta hai in 2001. He played the role of Priety Zinta’s uncle in this movie.  Same year, he did another role in Monsoon wedding. The movie was directed by Mira Nair.  

 

As a script writer, he has worked for a few short films as well as movies. Notable movies include - Raghu Romeo, Mixed doubles, Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi? and Mithya. As a director, his ventures are Raghu Romeo, Mitya, Fatso and Mixed doubles. He has also directed the play, Hamlet: The Clown Prince and Nothing Like Lear.  He has won National awards three times – For documentary as well as best feature film in Hindi.
