Rajan. P. Dev Biography

Rajan. P. Dev was a popular and talented actor of South Indian Cinema. He was equally popular for supporting roles as well as negative roles and was an integral part of Malayalam cinema since 1990’s. He concentrates most on Malayalam movies and has worked in Tamil movies in villain’s role. Narendra Prasad and Rajan P dev together forms a group and their most noted movie was Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava, where both played siblings’ roles. He had acted in over 140 films and has handled roles of all genres, comedy, villain or supporting. He was noted for his villain roles laced with a touch of humour. His career in Tamil movies started with Gentleman in 1993 followed by other south Indian languages, working in a total of about 50 movies. He has also directed a few movies in Malayalam.

 

Rajan. P. Dev was born in Cherthala on 29 May 1951 to noted stage actor S. J. Dev and Kuttyamma. He started his career in professional drama at a younger age. His father’s career has influenced him a lot. He has worked under N. N. Pillai and his successful career as a stage actor gave him entry to movies as well. He founded the play troupe Jubilee Theatres and actively participated in its stage shows. He composed the music of its last play, Amminipuram Gramapanchayat.

 

Rajan debut movies with Faazil’s Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku in the year 1983. Film Kaattukuthira, which became milestone movie in the career of actor Thilakan was based on the play written by Rajan. He expressed his disappointment too, when the role played by him went to Thilakan’s lap. Its director Thampy Kannanthanam gave him opportunity in the movie, Indrajaalam later. The role of Carlos in Indrajalam proved to be career defining for Dev and later he became well known as a villain on screen. Yet movies like Sphadikam (1995), Thommanum Makkalum (2005) and Chota Mumbai (2007) are noted for his comic shades. Other noted movies include - Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, Love in Singapore, Shakespeare M.A. Malayalam, Lollipop, Kanichukulangarayil CBI, Thaskara veeram, Chanthu pottu, Sethurama Iyer CBI, Arya, Azhakiya Ravanan, Rudraksham, Commissioner, Kushi, Bala, Dil, Dada Saheb, Sivam, Annan thampi, Chocolate, Pothan Vava and Pandipada.
