Raima Sen Biography

Raima Sen is a Bengali actress who works for Bollywood also. She is the granddaughter of great actress of Bengali cinema – Suchitra Sen. She is the elder daughter of actress Moon Moon Sen and elder sister of actress, Riya Sen. Their father Bharat Dev Varma is a member of the royal family of Tripura. Raima is also said to resemble her grandmother, Suchitra Sen much more than both her mother and her sister Riya.  She has appeared in many critically well acclaimed movies. Her most memorable performances in Bollywood include – Parineetha, Dus, C Kkompany, Muqbir, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, Migration, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., 99.9 FM, Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century, 3 Bachelors, Yatra, Manorama Six Feet Under, I, Me, aur Main, God mother and Daman. She appeared in one of the short stories in the Hindi Movie Mirch opposite Shreyas Talpade.

 

She has always been compared with her little sister who does glamorous roles on cinema and ads. Raima has always placed herself less glamourous and homely in most of the roles she played. She is most successful in Bengali than Hindi and her memorable performance include - Chokher Bali, Nil Nirjane, Hawa Bodol, Shabdo, Nishijapon, Anuranan, The Bong Connection, Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends, Baishe Srabon, Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish, Memories in March, Maach Mishti & More, Natobar Not Out, Sunglass and Khela.  She has done both leading and supporting actress role.

 

Sen made her debut in the film Godmother (1997), which was a critically acclaimed success and its crew including Shabana Azmi won National awards as well. So, her role went unnoticed in the powerful role played by Shabana. In the National award winning movie Daman, she played the role of Raveena Tandon’s daughter. Though her role was small her performance was noticed.

 

In 2003, she debut Bengali through Nil nirjane. Same year Choker Bali was also released and it gave her biggest break to Bengali cinema. Same year, Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century was released where she played the role of a princess. In 2005, she entered South Indian film industry and it happened through Telugu movie – Dairyam. She has debuted Malayalam industry too, through the movie – Veeraputhran.
