Rahat Indori Biography

Rahat Indori is an eminent Urdu poet and a popular Bollywood lyricist. He has worked as a pedagogist of Urdu literature at Indore University. He was born on January 1, 1950 in Indore to Rafatullah Qureshi and Maqbool Un Nisa Begum as fourth child. He did his school education at Nutan School Indore and graduation from Islamia Karimia College Indore. In 1975, he passed Master of Arts in Urdu literature from Barkatullah University. Rahat was awarded a PhD in Urdu literature from the Bhoj University in 1985.

 

He started his career as a lecturer in Urdu in IK College, Indore. But all those days, he was busy in Mushairas and he used to attend them. Very soon he became a popular figure of Urdu literature. He started reciting shers at the age of 19 and his poems were far advanced than time. At college level, he was a sport personal too. He started working as a sign-painter at the early age of ten and when he was in teens, he became signboard writer too. Now also, he is interested in designing book covers.

 

In 1972, his maternal uncle Hakim Hanfi gave him an opportunity to recite his poems in an All India Mushaira held at Dewas which was his first All India Mushaira. It made him immensely popular among the public. He is married to Seema, the daughter of Kotwal Ahmed Hussain and Niyazan Bee of Dewas. His relationship with Anjum Rehbar, a renowned poetess has led to the birth of Sameer Rahat(14 July 1989). As a poet, he has received countless honours.

 

As a lyricist, he has given numerous hit songs to Bollywood, particularly in the era of 90’s. A few of them need special mention. Mere khayal of Prem khayaal, Bumro Bumro and Dhuan dhuan of Mission Kashmiri, M bole to master mein master of Munnabhai MBBS, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Rang Hai, Dhuan and Do Kadam of Meenaxi: A tale of 3 cities, Dil jigar ke jaan achchha hai of Jaanam, Aaj humne dil ka har kissa of Sir, Haan Judai Se Darta Hai Dil, Chura Lo Na Dil Mera and Chori Chori Jab Nazrein Mili of Kareeb, Dil ko hazaar baar roka of Murder and Tumsa koi pyaara koi masoom of Khuddar.
