Raghu Babu Biography

Raghu Babu is a popular character artist and comedian associated with Telugu film industry. As a comedian he has succeeded in entertaining his audience through his comic expressions & timing. He is the son of veteran Telugu actor Giri Babu, who has also excelled in character and comic roles in Telugu cinema. He earned a Nandi Award for his performance as Yadagiri in Gandhi Jayanthi Natakam. Bunny (2005), Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishnamurthy (2004) and Kabaddi Kabaddi (2003) are among his popular film roles. Till now he has appeared in more than 150 films.

He was born into a filmy family on June 24, 1964, in Ravinuthala, Andhra Pradesh, as the son of prominent character artist, Giri babu. He shifted to Chennai while studying at class 7 and completed his college studies in this metro city itself. Though he completed Engineering degree from AMI in 1988, he preferred to help his father in his film production job. He got married the same year. His acting career began at the age of 10 as a child artist, when he got associated with stage plays. His role in Sri Krishna Tulabaram was one of his early popular roles on stage. But he didn’t have any initial plans to follow his father’s footsteps to become an actor. But it was director Satya Reddy who insisted him to join acting field.

Satya Reddy gave him the first break through 1990 film - Dongalu Unnaru Jagratha. His real passion was to become a producer, assisting his father. Subsequently, he did a couple of films. But it was not easy for him to get good roles during his initial days. He also worked in television and Madras FM (radio station), and also in a prawn farm. Later he joined the Rallapalli’s acting troupe and his role in Doordarshan’s Vasantha Kokila earned him recognition. Since then he got busy with television, and with early 2000s, he got good character roles in Telugu films also.
