Raghavendra Rathore Biography

Raghavendra Rathore is a leading fashion designer from India, who works under his brand ‘Brand India’. He is also an entrepreneur for diversifying his business into interior design, jewelry, and multimedia. Rathore was born and raised in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He belongs to the royal clan of Jodhpur. He has been honoured by Chief Minister of Rajasthan for promoting the heritage and culture of Rajasthan through his fashion designs. Raghavendra Rathore is alternatively known as Raghuvendra Rathore too.

He is a member of the royal clan of Jodhpur—a cousin of ‘‘Maharaja’’ Gaj Singh. His primary education was completed at his hometown. After his school was bombed during the Indo-Pak war, he was sent to Mayo College boarding school in Ajmer where he completed class 12. He didn’t like Indian universities and its education system. So, he decided to pursue his higher studies abroad. He went to study Anthropology and Robotics at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts as he believed that Indian colleges kill one’s creativity. Then he studied Arts and Philosophy from Marlboro College in Vermont and graduated from the Parsons School of Design, New York, in 1992. Then he worked as an assistant designer of Donna Karan.

He returned to India in 1994 and started his own brand Rathore Jodhpur. Later he expanded his brand to Delhi. His designs mostly reflect the Rajasthan heritage. His typical designs include Jodhpuri Bandhgala, Jodhpuri Achkan, and Jackets. His ‘Brand India’ image is copyrighted with his designs for Bandgala Jackets and Jodhpurs. He has also collaborated with S. Kumar’s on textiles designs and suits. Now he owns retail shops across the country as well as Greece and Hong Kong.
