Raghab Chatterjee Biography

Raghab Chatterjee is a popular singer and musician associated with Bengali film industry. As a playback singer Chatterjee is known for his work for Bengali films - Baishe Srabon (2011), Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012) and Meghla Akash (2001). He is a successful stage performer too, who has performed across the globe including USA, Canada, Kuwait, London, Nigeria, Bangkok, Muscat, Hongkong, Dubai, Abu dhabi, Bangladesh, Doha etc. He is a recipient of the prestigious R D Burman award, Uttam Kumar award, Kalakar award, Mirchi music award, HMV Golden Talent Contest winner and Bangla Sangeet Samman. He regularly performs for TV shows apart from radio stations. Raghab does concerts in classical music too.

 

Raghab Chatterjee was born into a Bengali family. He was drawn towards music very young and started playing guitar at the age of 9. His mother is also a classical singer who nourished his singing talents, and encouraged him in classical music. Later in the teens he took music as his profession and used to sing in Kolkata and suburban times. He is a great admirer of great Bollywood music composers like Salil Chaudhury, R. D. Burman and Madanmohan. He got initial training in Hindustani music from his mother, followed by Dr Amya ranjan Banerjee. He also received rigorous training in classical music from ITC/SRA under the guidance of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty for 6 years. He continued training in Hindustani music under Ustad Rashid Khan.

 

He has done back vocals for Bollywood movies such as Devdas, Tere naam, Raincoat, Parinita etc. Apart from rendering his voice for numerous Bengali film songs, he has been associated with ad jingles too. He has released numerous Bengali music albums, apart from a few Hindi albums - Tumi nei bole, Sharodia, Aat range, Nameplate,  Bhorer Alo, AAmar akash, Bhubanamohini, Shamiana, Ebong Rabindranath, Ebar najrul to mention a few. He rendered his voice for Shanker Ehsaan Loy’s ICC World Cup theme song in 2011.
