Raeesh Maniar Biography

Raeesh Maniar is a noted writer associated with Gujarati literature and entertainment industry. A noted ghazal poet and playwright, he also scripts movies apart from penning lyrics. He also writes columns for different forms of media. He is a qualified pediatric. In 2001 he received Shayda Award for his contribution in Gujarati ghazal poetry. Ghazal Nu Chhandovidhan, Nihaalto Ja, Kafiyanagar and Shabda Mara Swabhavma J Nathi are among his best published works. He translated Gulzar’s Urdu poetry to Gujarati language, for which he received Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in 2002. He has also translated the works of Javed Akhtar, Kaifi Azmi and Sahil Ludhianvi. He also writes humorous ghazals, known by the name – Hazals.

Raeesh Maniar was born on August 19, 1966 in Killa, Valsad district, Gujarat. His schooling was completed at Killa and Surat. He completed his MD (Pediatrics) in 1991 from Surat Medical College. He got married in 1989 and settled in the city of Surat. Same year he published his first book. He started writing poems at a young age of 11. He published his first poem in Gujarat Samachar at the age of 15. After completing his medicine course, he started his career as a pediatric. But later he became a full-time writer.

His first ghazal anthology - Kafiyanagar was published in 1989. He penned lyrics for popular Gujarati films such as Kevi Rite Jaish and Aa To Prem Chhe. He also penned the lyrics for the song - Thai Dod Dod Gali Vaat Mod for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. He also scripts films and writes plays too. Ghazal: Rup Ane Rang is his literary criticism work.
