R. Pradeep Biography

R. Pradeep, better known as Kottayam Pradeep is a stage actor and television star. His noted roles in ‘Parasparam’, ‘Sahadarmini’, ‘Narmudipudava’ and ‘Manasariyathe’ made him a household name among television audiences. Earlier known as Kottayam Pradeep, he changed his name to R. Pradeep in the recent times. In fact there is one more Pradeep Kottayam in Malayalam entertainment industry. He is best known for playing the role of ‘Krishnettan’ for the television soap, Parasparam. He has been essaying this role for more than 5 years which gathered him fame and recognition.

Pradeep hails from Kottayam, Kerala. Thiruvanchoor is his hometown. His father Raveendran Nair was a politician and associated with communist party of India, who was jailed during the infamous Emergency period. Pradeep was a government employee earlier. But he resigned his secure job to fully involve in the field of art and entertainment. His career as an artist travels from school dramas to amateur dramas to professional theater and finally to the world of television.

He got associated with professional theatre since the age of 20. Since then he was known by the name, Kottayam Pradeep. When he joined small screen too, he used the same name. But with the arrival of another actor with the same name, he changed his name to R. Pradeep to avoid confusions. R. Pradeep is not active in big screen.

When he resigned his government job, he had only entered small screen. During shooting he had to take leave, and slowly he switched completely to art field. He schooled at Perumbavur Pulluvazhi Jayabharatham School, known for promoting young talents. He actively participated in competitions and cultural events since then. Later he joined professional theatre and has worked with the troupes –Kottayam Ujjayani, Kottayam Drishyavedi, Changanassery Aniyara etc. He is married to Maya and has one daughter. He married Maya after 5 years of courtship, and their marriage happened against parents’ approval.
