R. K. Singh Biography 
Raj Kumar Singh, shortly called R. K. Singh is an Indian Administrative Service officer of 1975 batch Bihar cadre. He formerly held the post of Union Home Secretary of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs till 2013. Following his tenure, IAS officer Anil Goswami was given the post. R. K. Singh is also known as an Indian politician, who joined BJP on 13 December 2013. He contested 2014 Lok Sabha polls as a BJP candidate from Arrah constituency and won by a margin of 135000 votes. Currently he is a parliamentarian for the first time.
Singh belongs to Supaul district in Bihar, born on 6 November 1953. He served as district magistrate in East Champaran and Patna in the 1980s, before his civil service career. During his civil service career, he served as principal secretary in the road construction department of Nitish Kumar government during 2004–2009. During his tenure he played a significant role in improving road transportation system of Bihar. He was appointed as joint secretary in the Home Ministry for five years from 1999 to 2004 by then Home Minister, Advani, followed by head the department of defence production in 2009. He was handpicked by Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony. He served as Union Home Secretary of India from 30 June 2011 to 30 June 2013, and retired from his civil service.
After retirement, he got active with politics and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2013. He publically expressed his views against United Progressive Alliance's policy on internal security. He also criticized its stand against Pakistan. He was holding the position of Union Home Secretary, while the infamous 16 December 2012 Delhi gang rape created a lot of protests from citizens and media. He didn’t get well with Sushilkumar Shinde during that time, in handling the issue. They shared several disagreements on different matters.
