R. C. Majumdar Biography 
Dr. Ramesh Chandra Majumdar, also known as R. C. Majumdar was a great historian and reputed professor of Indian history. He has authored several books on Indian history. He was awarded the prestigious Rabindra Puraskar for the book, The History and Culture of the Indian People in 1957. Noted feminist, writer and social wing activist Vina Mazumdar was his niece.
He was born on 4 December 1888 in Khandapara village, Faridpur, Bengal. His native place now belongs to Bangladesh. Haladhar Majumdar and Bidhumukhi were his parents. He lived on the banks of Padma River. Born into the land of rivers, like other children he grew up with water. Duringrainfalls his house flooded and rooms were filled in ankleful of water.
Born into a poor family, his childhood days were spent in poverty. But he performed well in academics and got several scholarships and merits for completing his education. He completed BA and MA in history from University of Calcutta, and also won the Premchand Roychand scholarship for his research works. Soon after the completion of research work in 1913, he joined as a lecturer at Dacca Government Training College. Since then he has served as a history professor for several years.
He worked in different colleges and universities, and was active in his research works. He worked extensively and conducted researches on ancient India and published many works based on his research works. R. C. Majumdar is widely regarded to be one among the great historians on Indian History. He also taught Indian history in the Universities of Chicago and Pennsylvania in the late 1950s. He published his findings since 1920s and The Early History of Bengal, Champa, Ancient Indian Colonies in the Far East and Suvarnadvipa, Ancient Indian Colonies in the Far East are some of his early published works.
