Pulok Chatterji Biography 
Pulok Chatterji is an IAS officer who served as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, from 2011 to 2014. He served as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office from 2004 to 2009. He was serving the position of Executive Director to the World Bank before he was appointed as Principal Secretary to Manmohan Singh in 2011. He belongs to Indian Administrative Service 1974 batch from Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is a close associate to Sonia Gandhi’s family.
He hails from UP, born in the year 1952. His father served as Chairman of United Commercial Bank.Pulok completed his graduation from St. Stephen's College, Delhi and joined Indian Civil Service in 1974. He became the Collector of Sultanpur in UP in 1981. When Rajiv Gandhi took power as Prime Minister of India, he was appointed as PM’s Deputy Secretary. Since then he remained close to Congress and Nehru family. He has been associated with Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and also worked as Officer on Special Duty to Sonia Gandhi. He was introduced to the family by V. P. Singh in the 1980s, when Sanjay Gandhi wanted a new DM for Sultanpur —an IAS officer, but not originally from Uttar Pradesh. Though Sanjay died in the crash before they met, that choice marked the beginning of a long relationship for Chatterjee with the Gandhi family.
When UPA came into come into power in 2004 under the leadership of Manmohan Singh, he returned to his post as PMO. He joined as Joint Secretary to Government of India, and later promoted to Secretary. While serving as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office from 2004 to 2009, he has faced some allegations regarding 2G spectrum scam. It was accused that Pulok was fully aware of A. Raja's dubious decision-making in one of the biggest scams in the recent times. He favoured Kalmadi's appointment as CWG Chief, and was himself involved in the appointment which later turned to be a bad decision made. In 2011 he was appointed as Principal Secretary to PM replacing T K A Nair.
