Pulamaipithan Biography 
Pulamaipithan is a great scholar and writer associated with Tamil literature. He has also penned lyrics for numerous Tamil film songs of which his first song "Naan yaar née yaar" from the movie Kudiyirundha Koyil was a chartbuster. The film starred M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa in lead roles. ‘Aayiram nilave va', ‘Sirithu vazha vendum', ‘Punjai undu nanjai undu' and ‘Thenpandi Seemailae' are other popular songs. He was closely associated with M. G. Ramachandran, former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, who appointed him as "Arasavai Kavignar". This scholar also served as Deputy Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council. He published the book - Bookollamae Bali Pidamaai. He is fondly called Pulavar Pulamaipithan.
His real name is Ramasaamy Thevar. Pulavar Pulamaipithan is his pen name. He was born on 6 October 1935 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He worked in a textile mill in Coimbatore during his younger days. He also studied Tamil literature during this period. He came to Chennai in 1964 after completing his Pulavar degree to pursue his dreams as a lyricist for Tamil film industry. He also worked as a school teacher before he became fully active as a lyricist. Soon after joining the film industry, he quit my teacher's job. He had a lot of financial troubles during those struggling days.
He sent his family to his hometown and took shelter for himself at beaches. He got a break as a lyricist in the MGR movie ‘Kudi Irundha Koil' in 1966. The song ‘Naan Yaar Nee Yaar’ gave him a major break to his career. He resided in Mylapore where great musicians like M.S. Viswanathan and Sirkazhi Govindarajan lived. He used to go to different recording studios for song recordings. Lyricists were given cars and also petrol and driver allowances in those days.
