Professor Dinesh Singh Biography

Dinesh Singh born in 1955 is a professor of mathematics and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi from 2010. He has been awarded with Padma Shri. Professor Dinesh Singh was instrumental in initiating Four Year Undergraduate Program which met with a lot of resistance from different quarters, after which the programme was scrapped. Thereafter, Singh announced his resignation but later retracted it. It would be appropriate to mention here that Professor Singh has his anxious moments dealing with politicians and government on several occasions. 

Dinesh Singh did his B.A. (Hons. – Maths) in 1975 and M.A. (Maths) in 1977 from St. Stephen's College and M.Phil (Maths) in 1978 from the University of Delhi. Dinesh Singh completed his PhD in Math from Imperial College London in 1981. Professor Dinesh Singh holds doctorates awarded by different Universities including that of Edinburgh, Kurukshetra, University College Cork, National Institute of Technology, Ireland and University of Houston.

Professor Singh started his career as a Lecturer at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi in 1981 and then in 1987 he joined Department of Mathematics, University of Delhi. Professor Sigh has specialization in Operator Theory, Functional analysis and Harmonic analysis. Insidentally, Professor Singh is adjunct professor at the University of Houston and has also taught at , Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He worked as Pro Vice Chancellor before being appointed Vice Chancellor on 29 October 2010.
