Priya Rajvansh Biography

Priya Rajvansh – the heroine of 60’s and 70’s  is known for her beauty and her talents. She has acted only a few movies, but she is remembered for lovely picturization of most of songs by Lata Mangeshkar’s voice and madan Mohan’s compositions. Her murder in 2000 also drew much attention from public.

Priya was born in Shimla and has acted in many English plays in her childhood. When she was 22, her photographs reached the hands of Chetan anand, who casted her as the leading heroine of the patriotic movie Haqueeqat (1964) based on Indo-China war. This film was a big success and is remembered for the powerful performance of its actors as well as Madan Mohan’s music. Soon, the director and actress fell in love with each other and she assisted him in every work. Though she was a talented actress with modern look, her ascend and western looks didn’t appeal much Indian audience that time. Her second movie was released only in the next decade. Heer ranja opposite Raj Kumar was a big success.

The biggest of all her movies was Hasthe Zakhm in 1973. It can be said that Madan Mohan’s music helped a lot in Priya’s filmy career. She is still remembered for the musical numbers of madan Mohan pictured on her. It’s really a co-incidence that all her movies of 60’s and 70’s were composed by Madan Mohan - from her debut movie Haqueequat to Saheb Bahadur, except Kudrat and haath ki lakeerein. Other movies are Heer ranga, Haste Zakhm and Hindusthan ki kasam. So, her movies can be counted with our finger tips. Yet she is remembered as one among the most celebrated faces of Bollywood.

‘Zara si aahat hoti hai’ from Haqeequat, ‘Yeh duniya’ from Heer Ranja and ‘Bethad dil’, ‘Tum jo mil’ and ‘aaj socha tho’ from Hasthe Zakhm are those movie songs for which she is remembered most. Tum j oil jaya is one among the masterpiece romantic song of Rafi-Madan Mohan composition and all songs sung by Lata are just magical! Though she didn’t marry Chetan Anand, they had a live together relationship and before death Chetan Anand left a part of his property to Priya. But in 2000, his sons killed Priya to own that property too! A tragic end to the graceful face of Bollywood yesterdays!
