Priya Himesh Biography

Priya Himesh is a playback singer who predominantly sings for south Indian movies. She has also sung for a few Odia movies. Telugu song "Ringa Ringa" in the film Aarya 2 shot her fame, and also helped her to win Filmfare award for best female playback singer – Telugu. The song was later reused for Bollywood film Ready starring Salman Khan and Asin. She is frequently associated with the music composer Devi Sri Prasad who gave her regular breaks in the industry. She has also worked with A. R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, V. Harikrishna, G. V. Prakash and almost all leading south Indian composers of present times, in Tamil and Telugu. Kanthaswamy, Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai and Kutty are among her popular works in south Indian films.

 

Priya Himesh was born on 10 February 1985 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Her name is also credited as Priya Hemesh. This multilingual playback singer is associated with the field since 2006. She sang her first song, "Rangu Raba Raba" for Telugu film, Rakhee and the first break to films was given by Devi Sri Prasad. Same year she marked her Kannada debut with "Ondhe Ondhu Saari" song from the film Mungaru Male composed by Mano Murthy.

 

Her first break to Tamil films was given by none other than A. R. Rahman. "Kan Vizhithal Vennilavu" of Guru (2007) was only her third recorded song. She sang her first Malayalam song in the year 2011 - "Roses Roses Everywhere” from Casanova. By that time she was already an established singer of south Indian film industry. She rose to stardom with "Ringa Ringa" – item song of the film Aarya 2 released in 2009. "O Kothhaga Kothhaga" from Middle Class Abbayi and "Life is a rainbow" from Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi, both composed by Devi Sri Prasad are among her recent hits.
