Prem Kumar Dhumal Biography

Prem Kumar Dhumal is an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 24th March 1998 to 6th March 2003 and again from 30th December 2007 till date. He was preceded by Virbhadra Singh.

He was born 10th April 1944 in Samirpur Village of Hamipur District. His parents are Captain. Mahant Ram and Phulmu Devi. He married Sheela Dhumal and has two sons Arun and Anurag. He started his career as an Assistant in Life Insurance Corporation of India and with his hard work became the Chief Minister. He has multi-faceted personality. He had completed post graduation in English literature and has got a degree in law. He worked as a teacher in Punjabi University Evening College at Jalandhar and then at Doaba College. He is a politician with humanist spirit.

His political career started as an ordinary party worker and the office bearer of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha and then he became the State BJP president in 1993. He served as the Member of the Parliament three times. In the year 1998 he was first elected to the State Vidhan Sabha and then he became the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He worked for the potential development of the state and took initiatives in the power sector. He also enhanced the road facilities and make changes in the education sector.

He was elected to the ninth Lok Sabha in the year 1989 and to the tenth Lok Sabha in the year 1991 as the candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party from the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh. He served as the leader of opposition before he was elected again in the 2007 Lok Sabha by-poll. In the December 2007 election, his party won to the Vidhan Sabha.

He is a true champion of Himachali people. His motto is Roads, education, health, self and Aswaolamban and self. He is against the public functionaries at the cost of the public or private individuals imposed ban on holding the political functions in the government schools. He established voluntary environmental fund.
