Praniti Shinde Biography

Praniti Shinde is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra. She hails from Solapur. She currently serves as MLA of Solapur City Central at Maharashtra legislative Assembly. She belongs to Indian National Congress. Currently she serves her second term as MLA, and one of the youngest members of state assembly. Her father is Sushilkumar Shinde, former Minister of Home Affairs. Apart from her political career, she is also associated with social work, currently involved through her NGO – JaiJui. She is also into legal profession.

 

Praniti Shinde was born into a family with strong political background. She was born in 1980. Her father Sushilkumar Shinde is a famous Congress politician. Her mother’s name is Ujwala Shinde and she has two sisters – Preeti and Smriti. She passed her 10th standard in 1996 from Bombay Scottish School, Mumbai. She graduated in arts from Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College in 2001 and LLB from Government Law College in 2004. She was practising law till she took to politics. Currently she serves as an MLA at Maharashtra state assembly. She is also a social worker.

 

She got into active politics in the late 2000s. She successfully contested 2009 state assembly elections from Solapur City Central constituency as a Congress candidate and she retained the seat in 2014 elections as well. She defeated MIM’s Taufik Shaik with a narrow margin of 9000 votes. When she got elected to state assembly for the first time, she was only 29 years old, thus becoming one of the youngest legislators. She has come out against MIM, often dubbed as anti-national by some politicians. For her remarks, MIM party sought a public apology.
