Pragyan Ojha Biography

Pragyan Ojha is an Indian cricketer. He is slow left arm orthodox bowler and left handed batsman of Indian team at present. He plays for Hyderabad cricket team in domestic cricket and Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He played for Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2011. He is one among the top ranking bowlers of Indian team. As a wicket taking bowler, he has taken 102 wickets from 22 test matches at an average of 31.78 and 21 wickets from 18 ODIs played as per records of today. He has not given any significant contribution to the team as a batsman.

 

Pragyan Prayash Ojha was born on 5 September 1986 in Orissa. He did his schooling at D.A.V Public School, Chandrasekharpur from where he joined Hyderabad cricket team. He debut first class cricket during 2004-2005 season. Ojha is a left-arm spinner who has represented India at under-19 level. In the Ranji season 2006-2007, he took 29 wickets.

 

Ohja debut ODI in 2008 against Bangladesh. His magic spell of 4/21 in four overs gave victory to the team and gave him ‘Man of Match’ awards as well. But his later performances paved him way out of the ODI squad. He made his test debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. He played the second match at Kanpur when he got Amit Mishra’s cap. It was the 100th win of India in a test match. He got the figures - 2-37 off 23 overs and 2-36 off 15.3 overs in his debut match. He then took five wickets in the Third Test in another innings win for India. This test series is also remembered for the last match played by Muttiah Muralitharan, highest wicket taker of test matches. Ohja was the 800th and the last victim of Muralitharan in his cricket career. Ohja was inspired by Venkatapathy Raju, spin bowler of India to take this game as his career.
