Prabha Sinha Biography

Prabha Sinha is one of the earliest stars of Hindi soap opera – who played notable roles in Doordarshan soaps Swabhimaan, Itihaas etc in the 1990s. Her name needs no introduction to fans of Indian soap operas during its early days. She entered television scene around the same time of boom of daily soaps in India and she gained popularity through her first daily soap itself – Swabhimaan, which happened to be only the second daily soap telecasted in the country. She later played pivot roles in soaps – Kundali, Itihaas, Kumkum, Chotti Bahu - Sindoor Bin Suhagan etc. Reporter, Chanakya and Parampara are some of her early shows on Doordarshan in the 1990s.

She was born on 16 April 1960, as the granddaughter of Rai Bahadur Mukteshwar Prasad. Puttu is her nick name. An excellent student in academics, she completed sociology and she belongs to a family of doctors and lawyers. She later got married and came to television after had two daughters. She was casted in India’s second soap, Swabhimaan telecasted in 1995. She played the pivot role of Sheela and was paired with Deepak Parashar, which earned her recognition.

She later received a major role through Balaji Film’s first television soap – Itihaas, aired on Doordarshan in the late 1990s. She also appeared in Dooradrshan’s Parampara which was aired on Doordarshan till 1999. In between she played noted roles in many television serials. One of her early works for satellite channels - Palchin on Star plus, directed by Neena Gupta remains one of her best roles. Ittefaq, Karawaas and Zameer on Zee TV, Kundali on Star Plus and Kahani Nahin, Jeevan Hai on ETV are her other major works.

She acted in a few Bollywood movies in brief roles. She played one among the three mothers in the film - Mother 1998 (1999), where she was paired with Jeetendra. Good Boy Bad Boy, Akheer and Amrita are other noted films.
