Poojappura Ravi Biography

Poojappura Ravi is a veteran character artist and comedian of Malayalam cinema. He is a noted theatre artist too, who had long term association with Kalanilyam Drama Vision. This actor is known for her flexibility and versatility of acting skills and has a long association with cinema since mid-1970’s. He has appeared in both Black and White and Colour movies and has worked with all most all cine stars of the industry. He has done more than 400 stage shows, 800 films and many television serials as well.

His full name is Raveendran Nair and he was born in a middle class family in Poojapura of Thiruvananthapuram city. His father was a government employee who worked in Sainik School, Thiruvananthapuram after retirement. He was eldest of 4 siblings. He got associated with theater at a younger age. He got opportunity to work in the radio program, ‘Bala Lokam’ at the age of 12. He was one among the 15 students who got selected. They were given rehearsals of 2 days before the show.

While studying in class 11, he got opportunity to do the pivot character, Beeran Kunju in SL Puram Sadanandan’s Oraal Koodi Kallanai. He received appreciation for the role and got encouragement from teachers and friends. In those days, theatre was in golden years. Yet he didn’t even dream to work in movies. To work in Kalanilyam Drama Vision was regarded prestigious and he got opportunity to work with doyens of stage. 150 rupees was his monthly salary and he needed to play 40 shows a month. He entered films in the 1970’s and now also busy with movies and theatre.
