Pooja Kumar Biography

Pooja Kumar is an American actress, producer, model and television hostess, who works in Indian movies and television also. She was born to an Indian Mathur family in USA and was crowned Miss India USA in 1995 before she landed to entertainment industry. She has appeared in movies like Kaadhal Rojave, Night of Henna, Flavors, Hiding Divya, Park Sharks, Anjana Anjani, Bollywood Beats, Man on a Ledge, Anything For You and Vishwaroopam belonging to English, Hindi and Tamil languages. She has also worked as a newsreader on the show Namaste America and has been the VJ of Channel V.

 
Born in St. Louis, USA on February 4, 1977 to immigrants from India, her education was completed there. She took degrees in political science and finance from Washington University. Her father is from Dehradun and her mother from Lucknow. She is also a trained classical dancer who has learnt classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathak. Her success in Miss India USA prompted her to join entertainment industry. Her first signed project was Tamil flick, Kadhal Rojave. Though the film was signed in 1997, it got delayed and finally released in 2000. She has been dropped from Tamil flicks like VIP and Chinna Raja.

 
Pooja is also successful as a producer whose short films have been showcased at many international events. Her short film “1001 Auditions” has been selected in eight film festivals. It received nomination for best story at Stuttgart Film Festival in Germany. She has also appeared in commercials like Bombay Dreams, Verizon, Tata True Roots, AOL Time Warner, Dodge, Pearle Vision, New York Lottery, and Outback Steakhouse. In 2003, she received the Screen Actors Guild Emerging Actress Award for Flavors. She has also appeared in the Pakistani serial Ishq Junoon Deewangi on Hum TV.
