Pooja Batra Biography

Pooja Batra was a former model and heroine of Bollywood during 90’s. She has been successful in a few Bollywood movies like Virasat, Kahi pyar na ho jaaye, Bhai, Kahi pyar na ho gaaye and Haseena maan jayenge. She has also done a few south Indian movies like Kandukondein Kandukondein opposite Ajith (Tamil - 2000), Greeku veeridu (Telugu) and Malayalam movies Chandralekha (1997), Daivathinte makan opposite Jayaram (2000) and Megham opposite Mammooty (1999). She has also proved herself to a successful model and has won Miss India Asia Pacific in 1993. Her mother was also a former Miss.India contestant during the year 1971.

She did her schooling in Kendriya Vidyalaya at different states and has completed her economics degree too. But her passion to modeling prompted her to join the modeling industry and earn a little as part time job. She has done a few popular ads like Liril and Head and Shoulders. She has walked on ramp for more than 250 events and during her modeling career, she was linked with Akshay Kumar. But they broke up soon due to Casanova characteristics of Akshay.

It was director Priya darshan who introduced her to movies. In the year 1997, he signed her for two movies – one in Malayalam (Chandra lekha) and the other in Hindi (Virasat). In Virasat, she played supporting actress role, but her presence became very significant in the success of this movie. She was casted opposite Anil Kapoor in Virasat and opposite Mohan lal in Chandralekha. She played the leading lady role. Later the movie Chandralekha was remade to Hindi as ‘Har dil jo pyar karega’ and Preity Zinta did that role, opposite Salman Khan.

She acted in 22 movies. But she was always offered second role in most of her movies and this series continued till she ended her career. In Megham, she was given the role of Mammooty’s wife. But the leading role was done by Priya Gill. Same is the case of other movies like Kahi pyar na ho gaaye, Haseena maan jayegi, Nayak, Jodi No.1, Farz, Viswavidhatha, Parwana and Talaash. She played the leading actress role only in a few movies like Chandralekha, Oruvan, Sham Ghansham, Saazish and Bhai. She married Dr. Sonu Ahluwalia in 2002, but they legally separated in 2011.
