Pawan Kumar Biography

Pawan Kumar is a noted screenwriter and director of Kannada film industry. He has also done a few character roles onscreen. Started off writing successful scripts, he later directed a few movies and at present he is one of the leading directors of Kannada film industry. As a director, he shot to fame after Lucia (2013), which proved to be the turning point of his film career. Earlier he has directed one movie - Lifeu Ishtene in 2011 garnered very good reviews from critics and was a box office hit. Prior to his directorial debut he has written the scripts of successful movies - Manasaare, Pancharangi etc. Pawan has a string theatric background and has written many plays before his entry to films.

This young director was born on 29 October 1982 in Bangalore, Karnataka. Prior to his entry in films, he was associated with theatre as a stage artist and playwright. He worked as an associate director with Yograj Bhat before his independent career started off. As an actor, Mr. Garagasa in 2007 is his first credited role. Later he was seen in the movies - Inthi Ninna Preethiya, Manasaare, Circus, Pancharangi, Lifeu Ishtene, Lucia, Plus etc. Since his foray into films as a screenwriter with 2009 film – Manasaare he regularly appears in all the scripts he has written, including his directorial ventures.

It was Yograj Bhat who gave him the first break as a screenwriter, with whom he has worked as an assistant earlier. Lifeu Ishtene in 2011 was his debut venture as an independent director. With the movie, Lucia, he cemented his position as an established director of the industry. He won Audience Award at fourth London Indian Film Festival (2013) for film Lucia. The movie was later remade to Tamil as Enakkul Oruvan in 2015. This director is quite supporting for young artists who want to try luck in film industry. He also conducts workshops regularly. C10H14N2 and U Tum are his upcoming movies.
