Parthiv Patel Biography

Parthiv Patel is a very successful cricketer who has been associated Indian national cricket team as a wicketkeeper batsman. He made his Test debut in 2002 against England in Nottingham, becoming the youngest wicket-keeper in the history of test cricket at the age of 17, by breaking the previous record of Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad by a few months. He broke the record made in the year 1952. He was out on a duck in his first innings. However he resisted one long hour in the second innings, thus playing a significant role to make the match a draw. He played his first ODI in 2003 and was associated with National team till 2011. Currently he plays first class matches for Gujarat.

 

His full name is Parthiv Ajay Patel. He was born in Ahmedabad in the year 1985. Though he didn’t have any domestic cricket experience, he was associated with India Team-A, which opened his doors to national team. He made his Test debut in 2002 in the 2nd Test against England at Nottingham, becoming the youngest wicketkeeper batsman in the test cricket. Patel made his ODI debut against New Zealand in January 2003. Since then he has played as a wicketkeeper batsman for several matches for team India. He played 20 tests and 38 ODIs for team India, scoring 683 and 736 runs respectively.

 

Though he was a team member of 2003 Cricket World Cup where India reached finals, he didn’t get opportunity to play any match. He made his IPL debut in the year 2008 and played for Chennai Super Kings till 2010. He later played for Kochi Tuskers, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore and currently associated with Mumbai Indians since 2015.
